Members of the public are invited to review a draft code of conduct for the Mayor and Members of Council and appointment of an Integrity Commissioner developed by a committee of Council with staff support from the City Manager and CAO and the City Solicitor.
"The draft code proposes rules respecting Members of Council that will work with the Municipal Act, 2001; Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, 1996; Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act; Municipal Elections Act, and the Criminal Code of Canada," said City Solicitor Mary Ellen Bench. "The role of the Integrity Commissioner is to provide advice, assistance, and training to Council and investigate and assess complaints regarding an alleged breach of the code. The report was presented to Council in May, and recommends the appointment of an Integrity Commissioner on a part-time basis, and appointed by bylaw to a five year term."
Bench explained the report and code, based on the Municipal Act, 2001 outline various elements found in other codes of conduct from other Ontario cities. Ward 5 Councillor Eve Adams, Ward 8 Councillor Katie Mahoney and Ward 11 George Carlson served on the committee to develop the draft code.

David Ramsay, Erindale and three other outdoor pools also closed for the season
The City of Mississauga is upgrading its outdoor pool facilities with attractive and environmentally efficient features, ready for the 2011 season. Six of its seven outdoor pools will close for the 2010 season for renovations through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program.
"It's important that we continue to build and maintain our infrastructure that is so important to the quality of our neighbourhoods," said City Manager Janice Baker. "Although these temporary closures will cause some inconvenience, the improvements will be enjoyed by residents for years to come. In the meantime, we encourage residents to cool off, play and learn at the City’s indoor pools, spray pads or Don McLean/Westacres outdoor pool."
Construction has begun at Applewood Heights, David Ramsey, Erindale, Lewis Bradley, Port Credit and Streetsville outdoor pools. Each pool will have a new pool building with barrier-free family, female and male change rooms and on-deck showers, as well as a sheltered outdoor learning space and new landscaping. Energy efficient designs and building systems will reduce the facilities' energy consumption and improve water usage.
